For the last two years, we have been photographing the “featured family” for Greenbrier Neighbors Magazine. This monthly publication is distributed to over 6000 households in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake, Virginia. The August issue of the magazine will feature Chesapeake Mayor Rick West and his wife Vickie. We photographed on the deck of his home that is located next to Greenbrier Country Club. They were a wonderful couple to work with and very gracious to have left a member’s tournament that was in progress at the country club for their session.
Professional photographers love to do personal work, also called self-assignments. It allows us to push ourselves creatively. One of my favorite things subject for personal work is vintage styled images, especially from the 1920s to the 1950s. In this case, I was inspired by the work of Mark Shaw for Christian Dior in Paris in the 1950s. Shaw was a photographer for Life magazine, also known for his photographs of Audrey Hepburn and John Kennedy and his family.

For over 26 years, we have been the company photographers for the Academie de Ballet, Masterworks, and, more recently, the Masterworks Touring Company. We have done shoots with the company at many diverse locations locally and at locations out of the area.

A lot goes into a professional headshot to make it stand out. A confident and welcoming expression and great lighting are extremely important. Your choice of background can be equally important for a professional presentation. We are often requested to match the look of existing headshots for an established company. Others don’t yet have consistent, professional headshots so they want us to give them some direction. We have many background options, but these are the most common.

Phyllis Mihalas retired from the Army with 28 years of service followed by 10 years of service as a Civil Servant for the U.S. Navy in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, Virginia. She endured many government moves Phyllis and her team understands the challenges of moving, buying, renting, and managing real estate while in the armed forces.
